What’s on in Yorkshire this summer 

Summer holidays are nearly here again and you may be wondering what there is to do in Yorkshire this summer. Our reporter Dan has researched a few ideas: 

York early music festival – 8th-16th July 2022 

The 2022 festival opens with the acclaimed viol specialists Paolo Pandolfo and Amelie Chemin making a welcome return to York, and will close with the International Young Artists Competition. Guest artists include The Sixteen, Gonzaga Band, Tallis Scholars, Profeti della Quinta (winners of the 2011 competition), Gabrieli Consort & Players, Yorkshire Baroque Soloists and vocalists Voces Suaves. 

Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition –ends 17th July 2022 at Sewerby Hall 

On loan from the Natural History Museum in London, the exhibition features exceptional images which capture fascinating animal behaviour, spectacular species and the breathtaking diversity of the natural world. 

The Great Yorkshire Show – 12th-15th July 2022 (Harrogate) 

The Great Yorkshire Show is back over 4 days with plenty of your favourites including cookery demos in the Food Hall, national and regional livestock competitions and an exciting Main Ring attraction. 

Big Sky Beer Festival – 15th and 16th July 2022 

Wold Top Brewery’s annual Big Sky Beer Festival is not only an opportunity to taste a range of Wold Top’s award-winning beers, but also to try out 18 guest beers on draught! Join us for a weekend of selected ales, food, live music in the brewery and camping on the Yorkshire Wolds. 

Day out with Thomas the Tank Engine – 16th-17th July 

The kids can take a train ride with Thomas, meet Sir Tophan Hatt and join Sodor Station Sweepers Rusty and Dusty at Whistlestop Valley.  

Masham Steam Rally- 16th-17th July 

If a steam train rally more your thing, This year you can see famous Dancing Diggers, a fly past from a Lancaster Bomber, as well as live music and children’s entertainment. There will be hundreds of rare heritage vehicles including steam engines, tractors, motorcycles, cars, lorries and stationary engines. We also have food stalls, craft stalls and local ale! 

Beverley Puppet Festival – 15th-17th July 

If you into puppet shows, then Beverley Puppet Festival, which takes place once every two years across a weekend in July. Giant, fantastical creatures roam Beverley’s historic streets. Tiny, magical worlds are revealed to unsuspecting audiences in the Friary Gardens. 

Harrogate Music Festival- ends 28th July  

Harrogate International Festivals certainly looks very different to how it did over 50 years ago, the classical and chamber music programme remains at the heart of the Festival. From the Young Musician series to showcasing the work of globally acclaimed artists. 

Yorkshire Dales Food and Drink Festival – 23rd-24th July  

The Yorkshire Dales Food & Drink Festival is back. Once again, we are taking over Funkirk Farm, Skipton on the 20th & 21st July to bring you a foodie fun filled weekend you will never forget. Special guests: The Hairy Bikers and James Martin. 

Tramlines Music Festival- 22nd-24th July  

Tramlines three day music festival in Sheffield. Music Comedy and so much more. A great value local festival with some big names, with Sam Fender, Kasabian and Madness confirmed for 2022. 

Leeds Ska and Mod Festival- 31st July  

It’s outdoor at Millennium Square Leeds, with live music performances and DJ sets and alongside food stalls too, you are bound to experience a lively atmosphere.  

£35 per person or £17.50 for under 16s 

Emley Show 

6th August 2022 
Emley Show is one of the best attended and respected agricultural days out in Yorkshire, and a great day out for all the family. It is a true agricultural show, and is held against a picturesque backdrop across Huddersfield and beyond. 

Bingley Weekender- 5th-7th August 

Bingley Weekender music and comedy festival, with a rock, alternative and indie influence. Headliners this year are Rag and Bone Man, The Libertines and The Pixies. 

VW Festival – 12th-14th August  

The UK’s largest family friendly VW show. A full weekend of live entertainment, live music, VW’s galore and a great venue with a laid back atmosphere. 

Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival –  13th-21st August  

Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival is back in business and will return this August 13th-21st. We’ll have amazing scarecrows, amazing cakes and amazing weather
