This was the 2nd game in a 4 game block in the Premier League of games where Leeds would target wins from , against Southampton who had yet to win  this season, could Leeds build the momentum they had by winning before the international break, without 4 key players? It was also the 1st of 2 weekends when again the Premier League’s No Room for Racism campaign happened again, will it make much difference?
It was 15th placed Southampton against 17th placed Leeds.
It was played at St Mary’s Stadium
After seven minutes, Southampton had a freekick as Dallas pulled Elyounoussi back, Redmond took it, but Leeds cleared, then good defending by Roberts as Redmond tried to send a cross in, but Roberts cleared.
Just before the quarter hour, Redmond was set up along the top of the area, and tried his luck from range, but dragged it well wide.
Five minutes later, Southampton corner, but ball was nodded wide, then a minute later, another effort by Redmond from distance, shot was turned round the post by Meslier. A minute later, Redmond delivered a corner, Livramento nodded it on into the middle, and it was aimed for Elyounoussi at the back post, he leapt forward with a header, but it grazed the tips of his hair and was centimetres away.
After 22 minutes, nice play by Livramento asand Broja who found his team mate in the box and it nearly neared, but Dallas cleared. Southampton had another corner , Leeds cleared before Djenepo fired a shot into the stands.
At the midway point of the half, good defending by Harrison as a lovely ball was played over the top by Diallo, picked Perraud’s run out down the left, and Harrison was there to mark 2 defenders. Then a minute later, Jmaes’ shot was saved easily by McCarthy. Then a brilliant run by Redmond as he neat 2 defenders, before slotting Romeu in, his shot was blocked before Borja’s shot went into the stands.
Just after the half hour, Leeds won a freekick, as Roberts got clipped, Dallas delivered it, Diallo nodded away, Klich shot from outside the area, but Diallo there to block again. A minute later, Struijk had a moment to forget as he failed to control the ball, allowed Elyounoussi through, but his shot was saved by Meslier. Southampton recycled it as Djenepo tried to make his way into his area, but was sent sprawling by Struijk, freekick came to nothing. Then a minute later, Perraud clipped a cross from left wing, Southampton bodies in the area but none of them could connect.
After 39 minutes, James stole the ball off Djenepo inside his own half, before driving down the right, he held it up well, Roberts and Harrison were unable to strike but the ball was worked back to James, who crossed from the right, but McCarthy read it well.
Two minutes before halftime and the last first half action , Southampton broke again as Djenepo fired a cross from the left, Elyounoussi nodded wide. Then a minute later, Roberts did superbly well to turn himself goalwards and sent a pretty good shot towards McCarthy, but it flew wide.

Southampton were dominant but couldn’t score, would they rue these missed chances?
After 47 minutes, Djenepo’s effort from the top of the area was deflected off Leeds defender before bobbling back to Meslier.
Four minutes later, Roberts laid the ball off to Harrison, he dinked past Romeu before shooting but Diallo deflected it behind for a Leeds corner, which came to nothing.
1st Southampton goal
A minute later, Southampton broke after a wonderful ball from Djenepo deep in his own half, he picked Redmond out who was well ahead of LLorente, Redmond burst into the area, he squared fro Broja on the right and he finished superbly past Meslier and Southampton deservedly ahead.
Just after the hour, Harrison sent in a cross, McCarthy was down low to save but he couldn’t hold onto it and Livramento was there to clear it, then a minute later, Elyounoussi curled an effort goalwards, but it skimmed just wide.
After 68 minutes, it was nearly a gift of an equaliser for Leeds as Dallas pumped a ball forward, Diallo didn’t realise James was behind him, James muscled him out of the way, before trying to send the ball past McCarthy but he fired wide.
After 73 minutes, Broja received the ball in the area, he did well to hold it up, but he shot well wide.
With five minutes left, Redmond shot from range, but curled well wide.
Fulltime score: Southampton 1-0 Leeds United
A poor afternoon for Leeds without 4 key players, Southampton deservedly won.
It meant Leeds remained in 17th just above the bottom three.

Next for Leeds is a home game against Wolves on Saturday 23rd October at Elland Road with a 3pm kickoff, hopefully their 4 key men be back for that one with me going to see them.
