A city in Yorkshire will come to ‘light’ this weekend with its annual light switch-on. And there are Christmas-themed events all season.
Yes we’re heading to Wakefield for the Light switch-on and free festive activities at The Ridings Shopping Centre.
With only 7 or 8 weeks until Christmas, our reporter Dan has shared the activities at The Ridings for Christmas 2022 and more will be added:
What’s on at The Ridings Christmas 2022
Light switch on weekend – Friday 18th -Sunday 20th November 2022
There are lots of activities happening around the Ridings on light switch on weekend including:
Friday 18th November:
l Free face painting
l Free prosecco bar with special guset Stealia Heart
l Letter to Santa station and talking post box
l Pop up christmas fayre and lots more
Saturday 19th November:
l Cake decorating with Karen Wright
l Selfie opportunities with christmas decs
l Live music
Sunday 20th November:
l Live music
l 50p parking all day
Christmas pop up fayres
There’s lots of popup fayres around the centre from 18th November to 18th December, mainly at Nordale Delights

Saturday 3rd December Ukele Band
Friday 9th December Wakefield Ukele
Saturday 10th December Phoenix Band in the morning and Monday band in afternoon
Thursday 15th December Methodist Church Choir

Christmas toy appeal
There will be a Giving Christmas Tree from 7th November decorated with tags representing children who “wont have the Christmas they deserve”.
Tags are blank which allows you to buy a gift of your choice – write the age the gift to the child is suitable for on the tag and place it in the box alongside the tree. Drop off point – The Ridings Customer Service Desk

Christmas food appeal
This winter, food banks in the Trussell Trust network are expecting to give out an emergency parcel every 9 seconds.
We don’t have to live with this.
This year we’ve already made incredible changes to the way we live, work and look after each other.
With this winter set to be so busy at food banks, we need your help.
Drop Off point – our food donation point is on the lower mall, just outside Mormons.

Wakefield Street Kitchen Christmas selection box appeal
Wakefield Street Kitchen needs donations of selection boxes to be delivered across Wakefield to the elderly people and carers. The selection boxes will be wrapped up and delivered by Santa across the city.
