Artwalks and Art Trails in Yorkshire  2022: Free activities to do with the family

Want a night out on a cold January night? The Artwalk is the place for you if you’re interested in looking at different types of art.  

The Artwalk happens once every 2 months, on the last Wednesday and in January 2022 it is that time again on the 26^th January when it comes to The Ridings Shopping Centre and throughout iWakefield from 5pm till 9pm.

There are five things at the Art House, one at Wakefield One, one at Northgate, one at Wakefield Cathedral, one at Cathedral Kitchen, four at the Ridings itself, two at Westgate Studios and one at The Polka Hop but there are other things happening too:

Leeds Art trail–  

The Leeds Art Walk takes place on the first Wednesday of every month and offers art lovers a whistle-stop tour of the ‘pick of the month’ exhibitions and visual art across the city. It is a collaborative initiative led by Pavilion and The Tetley and is a great opportunity for members of the public to meet fellow art lovers and experience the best of visual art in Leeds.

Ilkley– Ilkley is turned into a huge art gallery with paintings, sculpture, jewellery, textile art, woodwork and experimental art on show for five days every autumn. Free and open to everyone, Ilkley Art Trail welcomes the public into artists’ homes and studios. The Trail promises a brilliant show of original art. As well as private living rooms opening up as exhibition spaces, the last Trail’s locations included therapy rooms, shopping centres, hotels, churches, gardens, pubs and a sculptor’s shed. 

Swaledale and Wensleydale Arts and crafts trail – Many Arts and craftspeople live and work in Swaledale and Wensleydale, finding inspiration in a unique country side of pastoral riverside villages, tumbling waterfalls, sweeping fells and moorland. 

They are a diverse band of artists working in and with a wide variety of materials wood and wools, metaland fabric, clay and candle wax, rope, felt and copper. All of them are dedicated to creating high quality beautifully crafted products for the market both at home and overseas. 

Visit them in their own workshops and take home a piece of the artistic Dales. The villages where the workshops can be found are Reeth and Muker in Swaledale and Hawes, Hardraw, West Burton, Wensley and Garriston, in Wensleydale.

Bradford Sculpture Trail 

Discover Bradford’s Sculpture Trail, an interesting way to learn more about Bradford’s sculptures. Don’t miss the Clock and Chair in Little Germany. 

Open Up Sheffield 

Open Up offers the opportunity to see and speak to artists and craftspeople in their studios and workshops. From Silversmiths to Sculptors, Painters to Potters, come and see the creative process in action!  This year here are when the artists studios will be open:
