Are you a sports person like me who likes to play sports as well as watch sports?

Here’s a few disability sports clubs in Yorkshire and where abouts they are, and what sport they do:

Wakefield Autism Leisure Club –Denhale Arc  Wakefield.   The activities and sessions they do are as follows:

days and activities:

Mondays:

Adult Football: (16years +) 6pm – 7pm – £3 per session

Multi Sports: (12 years +) 7pm – 8pm – £3 per session

Sessions are held at Denhale Arc, Denhale Avenue, WF2 9EF

Tuesdays:

Bowls session (8 years +): 6pm – 7pm – £3 per session

Session is  held at Denhale Arc, Denhale Avenue, WF2 9EF (September to April) & outdoor in Summer.

Wednesday:

Swimming (8 years +): 6.45pm – 7.45pm – £4.50 per session (paid in half term block payments)

Sessions are held at Sun Lane Leisure Pool, Wakefield.

Saturday:

Junior Multi Sports (5 years +): 9.30am – 10.15am – £2 per session

Leeds United Ability Counts

Football coaching and competitive opportunities focusing on “ability”.

Opportunities for all disabled people to play football at a level they are comfortable with.

Runs during term time

Operates at both Football World and Thomas Danby Campus (LS7 3BG)

Stanley’s Sports Club

Stanley’s is a multi-sports club based in Dewsbury which holds regular sports sessions for adults with learning disabilities and dementia. Sports include boccia, table tennis, football, basketball and pool, with other sports being added on demand.

They are Inclusive of members with Learning Disability, Mental Health

 

Pontefract Pirates

Ponte pirates is a football club that offer weekly training sessions for young adults with learning disabilities and difficulties and their session are:

Saturday mornings for adults aged 16+ years from 10am to 11am at Pontefract Pirates.

Sunday mornings: Juniors training  Children aged between 6 and 16 years from 10am to 11.30am

Wakefield Able2

The Able 2 group provides sport facilities and training for young people with disabilities living within the Wakefield District. The club is predominantly for people with a physical and/ or sensory disability, their families and friends. Multisport sessions are run on a Saturday 11am – 1pm at Featherstone Leisure Centre.  They don’t do football anymore, but wheelchair basketball has ‘taken over’ …they have 8 teams across several Leagues,  have GB players and even one guy who’s turned professional and plays in Spain.

They do direct players who want something other than wheelchair basketball to other clubs or whatever.

Wakefield Special Olympics

Boccia is a sport that involves players rolling, kicking or throwing a ball towards a jack.

The game can be adjusted to suit the physical needs of different individuals.
