Salman and Ankush Live In Concert: Sun 8 August
For the first time in Leeds, Rock On Music brings Indian Idol 10s very own winner and first runner up, Salman Ali and Ankush Bhardwaj to The Varieties. Supported by Chiragi Solankia Dance School.
Summer of Soul (Or When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised): Tue 10 Wed 11 August
Presented by Hyde Park Picture House, this powerful and transporting film is the acclaimed debut by musician Ahmir Questlove Thompson and includes never-before-seen concert performances from stars including Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone and Sly & the Family Stone.
For six weeks in the summer of 1969, just 100 miles south of Woodstock, The Harlem Cultural Festival was filmed in Mount Morris Park (now Marcus Garvey Park). It was an epic event that celebrated Black history, culture and fashion. After that summer, the footage was never seen and largely forgotten – until now.

Dave Spikey: A Funny Thing Happened: Thu 26 August
Funny things happen all the time. Normal events don’t catch the eye but Dave’s special radar instinctively draws him to the small, out-of-the-ordinary events and conversations that wash over most of us and pass us by. Once identified, he applies his unique style of exaggerating and elaborating them, whilst reminding us that we too have not only witnessed them, but it’s also probably happened to us! It’s this added dimension, this comedy of association that elevates the event to laugh-out-loud funny.
Soap From The Box Live: Tue 31 Aug Wed 1 Sep
Over two evenings City Varieties will welcome stars of Coronation Street, Emmerdale, EastEnders and Hollyoaks in conversation with and hosted by the creator of hit podcast Soap from the Box, TV Director Lee Salisbury and Emmerdale and Hollyoaks icon, Sheree Murphy.
These two very special afternoons and evenings of entertainment and guaranteed gossip will allow a soap-obsessed audience the chance to relive classic memories, listen to behind-the-scenes stories and take part in fun and games with the stars of the Dales, Cobbles, Square and Cheshire.
