Leeds United v Wolves Premier League Monday 19th October 2020

Days OutEverythingReviewsSports

This was the last game of another outstanding Premier League weekend and it was between a team who’ve started well against a team who are going through transition, so could Leeds go up to third in the early Premier League table?

It was at Elland Road under the floodlights.

After four minutes, good play by Leeds but Bamford shot way wide.

Two minutes later, corner by Phillips, Harrison headed to Bamford who nodded into the net but was offside.

Three minutes later, Ayling crossed to Rodrigo who headed over.

After a quarter of an hour, a neat move by Leeds again, Bamford crossed to Rodrigo who laid it off to Costa who pulled the shot wide.

After half an hour, Ayling had a shot blocked.

Five minutes later, Wolves had their first effort as Jimenez had a right footed shot from right side of the six yard box but was wide, but a warning to Leeds.

Two minutes late, good play yet again by Leeds as Harrison did a volleyed cross towards Bamford but cleared.

With five minutes to go until halftime, corner from Phillips, Harrison shot was blocked. Another corner ended with Rodrigo shooting straight at the keeper.

The last meaningful action of the first half was a Wolves attack, which ended with Podence shooting straight at Meslier.

Halftime score: Leeds United 0-0 Wolves

So a half that Leeds dominated but couldn’t find their clinical edge, would they be punished in the second half?

Eight minutes into the second half, Wolves thought they’d scored a good goal as Podence crossed to Saiss who volleyed it superbly into the net, but it was overturned by VAR who looked at it and ruled a Wolves player was offside.

Three minutes later,  Podence shot from outside the box but it was saved by Meslier, the resulting corner didn’t come to anything.

Just before the hour, Costa’s shot was close, but missed to the right.

With twenty minutes to go, the opening goal as Jimenez drove towards the penalty area, his shot deflected off Phillip’s head and into the net, an unlucky goal, but Wolves were ahead, could Leeds get at least a draw?

With fifteen to go, Neto’s left footed shot was blocked.

With ten minutes to go, Hernandez had a couple of shots but were both blocked.

After 83 minutes, Poveda had a shot blocked.

In stoppage time a couple more Wolves effort.

Fulltime score: Leeds United 0-1 Wolves

So a disappointing night for Leeds United who probably deserved a point, but a good win for Wolves. It’s a first home Premier League defeat for Leeds.

Next for Leeds United is an away trip to Aston Villa who have had a good start to the season on Friday 23rd October 2020 so a chance for Leeds to bounce back.
