Tottenham Hotspur v Leeds United Premier League Sunday 22nd November 2021

EverythingWhat's On

This was a game between 2 out of form teams, it was Antonio Conte’s first home game in charge of Spurs, Leeds should have won against Leicester before international break, so how would this game go? Leeds still had 2 players out for this game and they had another 2 out on the day, so could Leeds cope with a depleted squad?

It was played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Inside the 1st minute, Gelhardt got brought down in a dangerous area by Dier, Phillips decided to have a go directly at goal but saved easily by Lloris.

After 8 minutes, decent strike by Dallas from range which just went wide.

Just before the quarter of a hour mark, nice play by Leeds but it came to nothing, however Spurs made howler and Leeds had a corner which ended with Gelhardt blasting over but a confident start by Leeds, could they keep it up?

After 18 minutes, Kane crossed towards Royal who got round the back, but it was cleared for a corner which came to nothing.

Midway through the 1st half, Son broke for Spurs, he pulled it back for Kane but he couldn’t control it and Phillips cleared for Leeds.

Just after the half hour, James crossed towards Klich but it was cleared by Dier, then at the other end, Spurs crossed towards Kane but Cooper stooped to head clear.

Five minutes before halftime, Leeds kept the ball alive and eventually Forshaw had a shot from outside the box 30 yards out which went narrowly wide.

1st Leeds goal

A minute before halftime a deserved lead for Leeds as they worked it to Harrison on the right, he beat Royal 1 on 1 and crossed dangerously into the box, and James darted in at the far post to tap in for his 1st Leeds goal.

Halftime score: Tottenham 0-1 Leeds United

Spurs were really poor, but Leeds were excellent and deserved their halftime lead, cold they continue 2nd half or would Spurs improve?

30 seconds into the 2nd half and a glorious chance for Kane and Spurs as Kane was played in but Meslier saved and diverted it onto the post, corner came to nothing. At the other end, Leeds broke and James had another effort which was tipped wide by Lloris for a corner which came to nothing.

After 51 minutes, Moura’s shot blocked for a corner which came to nothing, then Son had a shot which deflected off LLorente and onto the bar.

Four minutes later, Leeds gave the ball away and Kane played Son in, Son was tackled by Phillips and Spurs fans appealed for a penalty but nothing given, VAR did check in the background. A minute later,  Gelhardt shot inside the area was parried away by Lloris, then a minute later, Gelhardt’s shot again saved by Lloris.

Spurs equaliser

Just before the hour, Spurs crossed it into Moura who laid it back to Hojberg who didn’t catch it as he would have wanted but it went into the net from outside the area and Spurs were level.

Just after the hour, Kane spun Cooper and tried to get shot away but Cooper did just enough.

Three minutes later, Dier played a ball over the top to Davies who went down, again the fans appealed for a penalty but nothing given.

2nd Spurs goal

After 67 minutes, Moura was brought down by Cooper in a dangerous area, 19 yards out so Dier took it when everyone thought Kane would, it deflected onto the post and Reguilon was there to follow in and Spurs led.

After 71 minutes, Gelhardt had a shot from point blank range which hit Kane’s hand, Leeds plyers and fans appealed for a penalty, VAR had quick check but nothing given.

Three minutes later, a well-worked corner by Leeds and James tried a curler which went straight to LLoris.

After 78 minutes, Son drove at Leeds defence and shot wide.

The last meaningful action was after 85 minutes as James shot from outside the area which went straight into Lloris.

Fulltime score:  Tottenham 2-1 Leeds United

Spurs were better in the 2nd half, Leeds lost points from a winning position again.
