Everton v Leeds United Premier League Saturday 12th February 2022

This was another big game at the bottom with Everton 2 points above the relegation zone, Leeds 6 points above, so could Everton get a much needed win or would Leeds push them closer to the drop?

After two minutes, the 1st shot was by Everton as Gordon shot but it was straight at Meslier. A minute later, Iwobi charged forward but couldn’t get shot away.
After five minutes, Gordon hit one from range straight at Meslier.


1st Everton goal – Nice move by Everton
After nine minutes, moments after King’s cross to Calvert-Lewin missed, another well worked Everton attack, involving Van de Beek and others who crossed, and Calvert-Lewin’s effort stayed out, but Coleman prodded a diving header home, and Everton were deservedly ahead.
After 17 minutes, James bursted into are but Holgate got back well on the stretch to deny him. Then Rodrigo smacked a bouncing ball from 25 yards , saw Pickford slightly off his line and his shot hit the bar.


2nd Everton goal – Bullet header by Keane
Midway through the 1st half, another set piece goal conceded by Leeds as Gordon sent in a terrific cross in from the right and Keane wanted it more and bulleted his header past Meslier, Everton were flying, Leeds were wobbling.
Just before the half hour, Good Everton play again and Gordon’s shot outside area was saved by Meslier easily.
Just after the half hour, Raphinha beat Kenny and tried sliding Harrison through, and he was inches from collecting.


Six minutes later, Iwobi’s shot outside area tried to curl it round Struijk but it went just wide.
Five minutes before halftime, Everton won the ball back and Richarlison’s shot was blocked, then another shot blocked for a corner which came to nothing.
After 43 minutes, great ball by Iwobi to Calvert-Lewin who from a tight angle forced a save by Meslier for a corner which came to nothing.


Just before halftime, quick passing by Leeds as Raphinha set Rodrigo up on the edge of the box, and his curled shot was brilliant but hit the bar again.

Everton were superb in the first half, Leeds hit the bar twice but in general were poor, could Leeds turn it round in the 2nd half?
After 49 minutes, Harrison’s cross was good looking for Rodrigo but ended with Janes who took the selfish option and shot rather than pulling it back.
After 69 minutes, Calvert-Lewin’s shot was blocked. A minute later, Rodrigo’s shot from way out was over the bar.


3rd Everton goal – Deflected flick off Gordon’s heel
With 12 minutes left, more good Everton play as Richarlison’s shot took a deflected flick off Gordon’s heel and into the bottom corner.
In the 90th minute, Rondon’s shot saved brilliantly by Meslier for a corner which came to nothing.


Fulltime score: Everton 3-0 Leeds United
A worrying afternoon for Leeds as they didn’t show any hard work or any fight, it was a big three points for Everton.


It left Leeds in 15th on 23 points still 6 points above the bottom three.

Next for Leeds is the start of three games in 6 days and for Leeds fans they don’t get any bigger than welcoming Manchester United to Elland Road on Sunday 20th February with a 2pm kickoff.
