The Women’s World Cup is taking place from Thursday 20th July to Sunday 20th August, there are eight groups of 4 teams and it’s in Australia and New Zealand.

There are four players in the England squad who are from Yorkshire, and they are:

Rachel Daly

Millie Bright

Beth Mead

Lucy Staniforth

Here’s a  profile on each of them:

Rachel Daly

She was born in 1991 so is 32 years old , she is 5 feet 8 inches and was born in Harrogate. She plays for Houston Dash in America, she is a versatile player as can play fullback, wingback or even upfront.

She scored on her debut in 2016.

Millie Bright

She was born in 1993 so is 30 years old, she is 5 feet 10, she was born in Chesterfield, has 27 senior England caps.

Played every match of Euro 2017, despite only making debut 10 months earlier, she had a fantastic partnership with Steph Houghton as they kept 9 clean sheets out of 14, she has also won numerous Women’s Super League titles with Chelsea.

Beth Mead

She was born in 1995 so is 28 years old, she is only 5 feet 4, she was born in Whitby, plays for Arsenal.

She introduced herself to the world in 2019 with two well taken goals in the SheBelieves Cup, one against Brazil which was sumptous, and the other against Japan which sealed the SheBelieves cup for England, found her feet at senior level with five goals in 12 appearances.

Lucy Staniforth

She is on the standby list if anyone gets injured, she was born in 1992 so is 30 years old, 5 foot 2, born in York, plays for Birmingham.

Represented England at the Under 17 World Cup in 2008, before helping under 19s reach back to back European Championship finals, and they won it in 2009.

Progressed to the under 23s while waiting for first taste of senior international football.

England are in a group with Haiti, China and Denmark so you’d expect them to get through to the knockout stages, so can the European Champions become World Champions?
