Yorkshire Day is celebrated every year on August 1^st to celebrate the historic county of Yorkshire.

Here’s some ideas of what is happening around Yorkshire for Yorkshire Day 2020:

• Yorkshire Cancer Research Virtual Welly Wanging World Record Attempt

• Go Ape is an outdoor adventure park with a variety of things to keep the children entertained.

• The Hepworth in Wakefield is reopening, and you can see the Brandt/Moore exhibition right up until November

• York Art Gallery – Visitors are welcomed back to see the gallery’s impressive collection, providing tickets are purchased in advance online.

• North Yorkshire Moors Railway – It’s full steam ahead as of August 1st, but due to limited capacity services it’s essential to book online ahead of your visit.

At  the North Yorkshire Moors Railway,  there will be four trains running seven days a week daily from Pickering to Levisham return, and from Grosmont to Goathland return, with a total journey time of one hour. For steam enthusiasts, the locomotives running have been confirmed and will include Southern Railway’s former engine, 825, which originally entered service back in April 1927, alongside 926 Repton, which entered service May 1934 and operated at Bournemouth for most of WWII.

Each train carriage will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitised before welcoming its next set of visitors and onboard toilets will not be in use for the time being. Platform toilets will be available and will be made unisex to enable family groups to use each toilet, one family at a time.

All stations will remain closed, except to pre-booked guests, and a controlled one-way passenger walkway system will be in place alongside a number of hand-sanitising points throughout the NYMR. All guests will be required to arrive through their designated car park, where clear signage and a volunteer welcome team will direct them to the platform ready to enjoy a scenic trip through North York Moors National Park.

A limited selection of drinks and snacks will be available to purchase from the tea shop at Grosmont station and via the education room at Pickering.

Like many tourist attractions, NYMR had originally planned to open early April but as a result of lockdown, has spent the past few months closed to guests, but active behind the scenes with its crisis appeal, that has so far raised £350,000 to help keep the heritage attraction on track.

• The Deep Hull

If you’re a lover of sea creatures, then you could take a trip to the Deep in Hull, where you where you can take a tour of the Deep, and see all the sharks and fish in the aquarium, and there’s also live dive shows that give the wow factor, however dive shows are currently still suspended.

Whether you’re into water creatures, or railways go and enjoy Yorkshire Day 2020 even if it is slightly different this year.
