What is Artwalk, when it is, where it is and my experience of a previous one

Days OutEverythingWhat's On

Artwalk is a national event that takes place every other month, it is inclusive for everyone including people with learning disabilities, and it showcases exhibitions, live music, performances, poetry and loads more.  This year’s artwalk is on Wednesday 28th July 2021 and it takes place across Wakefield in various venues, including the Make Space unit in the Ridings, The Make Space, 73 Bishopgate Walk, The Ridings Shopping Centre, Wakefield, WF1 1YB home of CoActive Arts and Stride Theatre, and CoActive’s exhibition this time is called Unlock which is an exhibition about their recent work, and a sneak peek at some set design for a future performance, which the writers group worked on during lockdown.

The artwalk itself is held from 5pm-11pm but certain venues will only be open for a certain amount of time such as CoActive which is open from 5pm-8pm.

I have taken part in a previous artwalk when CoActive worked on things for the Festival of the Moon and I worked on a big moon which I drew then I painted and it took a while, but I hung it up on the exhibition wall, then on the night people came to see it which made me happy, as they could see what I did.  But I also went out and about and took part in a couple of activities in the city, including a yoga one which was led by an interesting lady, I also went to another space where there were exhibitions of poetry, art and other things and I enjoyed my previous experience.
