Things to do in October halfterm

Days OutEverythingWhat's On

This week is October halfterm, so you may want to know some of the things that your children can get involved with or do during this halfterm.

Our accessibility reporter Dan has found some ideas from the Wakefield Mumbler:

WordFest 2021 Led by Wakefield Libraries as part of Festival of the Earth, WordFest 2021 combines the power of our spoken and written language through poetry, theatre, debate, song and creative writing with the Festival of the Earth climate change and sustainability themes. The festival ends with a spectacular free pop-up immersive exhibition at WX (former Wakefield Market Hall, Union Street) during half term week 23-30 October open 10am-4pm daily. To see what’s on click here

Curated by Backstage Academy students with spectacular sound and visual effects and featuring three zones of activity representing three biomes of our planet, this free WordFest finale exhibition is not to be missed! With craft activities, theatre, music and film performances for all ages including a live talk by TV environmentalist Liz Bonnin there will be something for everyone.

Visitors can experience The Ocean zone, an underwater wonderland featuring a 18m long inflatable whale, the Enchanted Forest zone featuring trees of wisdom contributed by communities across our district, and the Air zone with an installation of The Butterfly Effect by Tony Wade, a mesmerizing aerial exhibit of butterflies created at community workshops throughout 2021.

Or there’s some more ideas below:

Halloween parties-

There’s nothing better than a Halloween Party (especially when you don’t have to do the prep!).

We’ve picked out 10 Kids Halloween Parties around Wakefield with fancy dress competitions, creepy crafts, spooky treats or devilish dancing.

Pumpkin patches-

Halloween and pumpkins go hand in hand! The challenge of which one (or three) to choose – size, colour, shape … it takes us as long at picking the Christmas Tree!!

If you’re wanting to pick your own pumpkin this Autumn we have five locations around Wakefield!
With now being a big brother, our son sometimes just wants a bit of Mummy time to himself! We recently went to see Paw Patrol the Movie at Reel Cinema in The Ridings Shopping Centre and had a great time! The tickets were bought online at a bargain price of £2.50 each and all cinema visits include free parking too (just let them know at the entrance tills). There’s some great movies this half term – The Addams Family 2, The Boss Baby: Family Business & Ron’s Gone Wrong.
