Crystal Palace v Leeds United Premier League Saturday 7th November 2020

Days OutEverythingReviewsSports

This was a chance for Leeds to bounce back from their defeat to Leicester but wouldn’t be easy as Crystal Palace are a hard team to beat, so would a trip to the capital prove successful for Leeds United?

It was played at Selhurst Park. It was Remembrance weekend, so there was a minutes silence and the Last Post played at grounds all weekend.

After two minutes, Townsend had a cheeky pop at goal from the right, attempting to catch Meslier out at the near post, but Meslier gathered.

A minute later, Zaha used his pace to get away from Ayling down the left, and found Townsend in the box, but Townsend was crowded out as he looked to get a shot away.

Four minutes later, Townsend was found on the right but he overhit his cross as he tried to find Ayew in the centre.

After 10 minutes, Costa won a corner for Leeds off Eze,  Klich’s delivery was headed over by a good couple of yards by Cooper.

Three minutes later, and we had the opening goal, as Eze’s corner went straight onto Dann’s head as he rose above 2 Leeds defenders to plant his header into the top corner as Meslier couldn’t keep it out.

Four minutes later, Klich played a weighted pass to Bamford who finished superbly. However, it went to VAR who ruled it out for Bamford pointing where he wanted to ball, absolutely ridiculous decision.

After 22 minutes, Eze was fouled by Klich.  Eze stepped up and curled a sumptuous 25 yard feeekick over the wall and into the net.

5 minutes later, Ayling’s cross was flicked on by Klich and Bamford let it drop before crashing a  left footed  shot to Guaita’s right, and Leeds were back in it at 2-1, although it really should have been 2-2.

Just after the half hour,  Ayew fed Zaha to his left for a one on one with Ayling who did well to stay with him to deflect a shot for a corner, which came to nothing.

The last action of the first half was Zaha playing a beautiful pass down the left for Van Aanholt to run onto. Meslier at fault as he anticipated the cross coming in, but the shot took a deflection off Costa  crept in at the near post.

Halftime score:  Crystal Palace 3-1 Leeds United

So a poor first half for Leeds, although they will have been angry at the disallowed goal, how would the second half go>

After 51 minutes,  Harrison crossed and Struijk nodded wide from 8 yards out.

On the hour mark, Raphinha played a lovely ball through to Dallas’ but Dallas’ cross was hacked away by Kouyate.

Five minutes later, Harrison angled a thunderous shot but got saved by Guaita.  A minute later, Zaha was in on goal but Alioski got back in the nick of time.

With twenty minutes to go, Zaha darted forward with menace, Leeds backed off and Zaha spotted a gap, slipping the ball through to Ayew, who got the ball out of his feet and scored into the corner.

After 85 minutes, Raphinha stepped up from 25 yards oout and curled a vicious freekick just wide of the post.

Fulltime score: Crystal Palace 4-1 Leeds United

Back to back 4-1 defeats for Leeds, but they will get days like these in the Premier League.

Their next game after the international break is at home to Arsenal on Sunday 22nd November 4:30pm kickoff.
