This was Leeds’ final game of an amazing 2020 that has seen them promoted and doing well in the Premier League.

A win for Leeds would see them end 2020 11th in the Premier league and 12 points above the relegation zone, what sort of opposition if any would West Brom provide?

It was played at The Hawthorns.

After 9 minutes,  a comical moment as under no pressure Sawyers turned and played back to Johnstone,  but Johnstone wasn’t where Sawyers thought he was, and the ball rolled into the net for an own goal, a gift of a goal for Leeds not what West Brom or Sam Allardyce wanted or needed.

After 16 minutes, Harrison cut in from the left before rolling the ball to Rodrigo whose shot was blocked.

Two minutes later, Klich spotted Bamford in the penalty area, but Klich got the pass wrong.

Two minutes later, Furlong did a testing cross, but Dallas cleared for a corner.

A minute later, Diangana whipped a good cross intot he box but Meslier came off his line, and he did enough. Replays showed Rodrigo had hold of Robinson, VAR checked but no penalty.

Just before the half hour mark, Harrison cut in off the left and Diangana stumbled which allowed Harrison to shoot, but didn’t come to anything.

Just after the half hour, Furlong’s clearance dropped to Alioski who hammered it in from edge of penalty area into the far corner, it was a great goal and Leeds were all over West Brom.

After 36 minutes, Harrison exchanged passes with Bamford to get intot he penalty area and he produced a lovely bit of skill, backheeled to get past Furlong and onto his left foot before guiding the ball into the top corner, and Leeds were three nil up,.

Five minutes before halftime, Phillips did a brilliant diagonal pass to Klich who rolled it to Rodrigo, whose shot took a big deflection off O’Shea and went past Johnstone and it was another superb goal for Leeds.

Halftime score: West Brom 0-4 Leeds United

So a quite brilliant first half from Leeds, played some lovely football and scored some cracking goals as well, would the punishment continue for West Brom in the 2nd half?

After 55 minutes from a corner, Leeds went short and eventually Klich lifted it over the top in search of Harrison but ball was too high.

With just under 20 minutes remaining, another brilliant Leeds move finished emphatically as Raphinha collected the ball and cut inside and scored a superb goal into the corner, and it was five for Leeds.

After 77 minutes, Ayling got across at the near post, and flicked goalwards but couldn’t keep his shot down and ball floated over the crossbar.

There were a couple more moments towards the end, but nothing happened.

Fulltime score: West Brom 0-5 Leeds United

So a comprehensive win for Leeds United to end their 2020 with some superb goals, and football.

Next up for Leeds is their first game of 2021 away to Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday January 2nd , assuming that the Premier League doesn’t take a 2 week “circuit break” due to a rise in positive Covid cases in the Premier League on Tuesday.  The clubs are discussing it but the Premier League are determined that the show must go on.
