This was Leeds’ 2nd away game of the season and it was in Lancashire as they faced Burnley. Both teams were looking for their 1st wins, although Leeds did get their 1st point last week.
Leeds won here last season 4-0, but were missing Klich and Firpo due to positive Covid tests, so could Burnley get their 1st win or would Leeds emerge with their 1st 3 points?
It was played at Turf Moor.
It was a strong, positive start by Leeds but nothing to get excited about.
After 17 minutes, Burnley had a freekick but it went straight to Meslier.
A couple of minutes later, there was another Burnley freekick which went straight to Meslier.
Then another couple of minutes, Burnley had a corner which came to nothing, then a 2nd corner which was dangerous but it came to nothing.
After 26 minutes, Burnley had another freekick which was dangerous again , Barnes controlled it and finished it superbly but he controlled it with his hands, so it was disallowed.
On the half hour mark, Gudmunsson curled a shot in the area which went just wide
Four minutes later, there was good build-up by Leeds which ended with Raphinha’s left foot shot went wide.
After 39 minutes, Leeds broke quickly, Phillips clipped towards Bamford whose first touch let him down, then a minute later, Barnes had a shot saved by Meslier for a corner, which was good delivery and Wood headed wide.
The last action came in the 1st minute of stoppage time, Burnley had a corner and Bamford headed against his own post, then Leeds countered quickly and Bamford got took out by Mee.
Halftime score: Burnley 0-0 Leeds United
It was a frustrating first half for Leeds as Barnes and Mee both did bad challenges, and Burnley looked more dangerous, who could get a foothold in the 2nd half and win the game?
In the 1st minute of the 2nd half, Leeds broke and Harrison passed to Bamford but he was offside.
After 52 minutes, McNeil had a shot from way out and it went well wide.
Three minutes later, Burnley had a corner and Mee got his head to it, but Cooper cleared.
Just before the hour mark, there was good play by Burnley and Brownhill shot wide.
1st Burnley goal
On the hour mar, from the corner, Tarkowski’s header git the bar, then another shot was blocked, Burnley fans appealed for handball, then Lowton shot and Wood got a little touch in front of Meslier to give Burnley the lead.
With twenty minutes left, Bamford had a right footed shot from centre of the box blocked.
Leeds equaliser
With five minutes remaining, Leeds equalised as Raphinha beat his man, pulled it back to Shackleton who did a mishit shot and Bamford was there to tap it in over the line for Leeds, could they push for a winner now?
Two minutes later, Wood’s shot for Burnley saved, then Shackleton had a left footed shot saved for Leeds.
In stoppage time, Dallas had a shot with his right foot blocked, then in the 3rd minute of stoppage time, Phillips had a header which he headed wide.
Fulltime score: Burnley 1-1 Leeds United
I think Leeds would have been happy with a point from a physical game, but they’ve not quite clicked into gear so far this season.
They are 15th in the Premier League table on 2 points heading into the first international break of the season.
